So amidst any further delays the club in Quincy is set to open in April....The Patriot Ledger has more on the 85,000 sqft store.
Aside from the barrage of complaints we're received regarding the increased Club politics during the past few months (in metro NY) we'd like to hear from workers all over, are these politics affecting your work atmosphere as much as they are here in NY? Even the Long Island workers are saying things are "tightening up" more and more.
Let us know, keep the emails coming.

Anybody here about wage issues w/ BJ's lately?
ReplyDeleteNo complaint about wages, just the way Cornel tries to micro manage the business. He acts like every club is exactly the same. If he had ever actually worked in a club he might be more believeable. All of upper management over reacts to anything that happens on the club level and institutes rules to cover their a** because some people are idiots.
ReplyDeleteIs there anybody at home office left that actuallly worked in a club? I would guess maybe only 2% even know what the inside of one of our clubs outside of Framingham or Dedham looks like.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the big secret announcement for 11-17? No one is saying.
ReplyDelete$11.7 million to past and present mids for o/t not paid. heard thatsom mids will be going hourly as specialist. 37% hit on profit for 3rd Q. Read up on it, this is just the jist.
ReplyDeleteBJ's in Mass is RETARDED; When they are putting payroll budgets together they are giving more payroll to clubs based on which VP lives in their town, this is an absurd level of thinking all it does is paint a false picture in the real BJ's world in other clubs. What company TAKES payroll away during the timeframe between Thanksgiving and Christmas?? Apparently BJ's is that company, agree with poster stating Cornell is trying to micromanage the stores..try working in an area where Cornell can pop in at any moment any day any time, I don't think I have ever met anybody that lives in more of a pretend world than him. The major problem with BJ's right now resides at the ZONE VP level, as long as we have ZONE VPs that have no balls to stick up for the retail side of the business to Cornell this company won't run at its full potential. Almost a box a day of email communication, we are being over communicated to it is near impossible to even have the time to read all of the memos. Somebody throw us a life line...
ReplyDeleteThe payroll issues are stupid. Who the hell has payroll cut so that you only have a few cashiers on a Saturday during the Holidays? OR have Personel asking for tem members to go home.
ReplyDeleteThis is what happens when someone in charge, Cornell, doesn't know what he is doing because he never worked in the clubs. I almost long for the days of Mike Wedge, well maybe not. Laura needs to assert control and do what is right for the business.
ReplyDeleteThe more they save, the bigger bonus to those higher up then most of us
ReplyDeleteThey need to eliminate Bonuses for coming in under budgeted payroll. All that leads to is inefficiency and poor moral. The hourly workers are not stupid. And enough with this 30 hour full time and 37.5 hour full time. Confusing as hell. Cant tell you how many people thought they were being hired at 40 hour full, then get told no its really only 30 hour. Some deceptive hiring practices by some HR
ReplyDeleteI had a G.M. in my store tell me I could work 6 days if I did not get a part time job as long as one day was sun. and I would not go over 40 hrs. well I can not work 6 days anymore and now I do not have my PT job.
ReplyDeleteI have a question. Who's watching over the Star of the Month and Star of the Year program? And, is there an audit trail? Do the GMs have to prove that the stars are chosen without prejudice? Is there a voting and review situation or is this another one of those favoritism program that BJ's is getting so well known for? Please give me some feedback on the matter.
ReplyDeleteBeware!!!
ReplyDeleteBj's is showing a profit at the expense of cutting payroll and expecting under paid managers to pick up the slack! How is a manager supposed to manage when they are forced to work behind membership counter or act as a front line supervisor ect... Wake up!!!! can anyone
honestly say they have gotten good service at a bjs?
All they care about is is MFI=Membership fee income!
Controlling payroll at any expense!
and being Audit ready!
And if you look at the audit it has very little to ensure its members are taken care of!
I work in a club that I'm forced to cut demo shifts, close out demos that are never performed all because Im not given enough payroll to complete!
ReplyDeleteSome days I have one person doing multiple demos!
I speak to others at other clubs and it's the same everywhere!
The companies paying for these demos to be performed need to know they are getting ripped off!
Alot of the demo product is used to feed managers on a regular basis or to be used for events.. Not what it's intended for!
BJ's should be ashamed of themeselves for asking us to do such things!
Wow, I thought it was only in our club. What the heck is going on? We gave many people time off this month and left ourselves with hardly any help during Christmas shopping season. We hired no extra help and payroll is being cut more and more every week. What will happen in January?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the managers names at the Quincy location? I want to apply for a position, but I want it to seem like I was referred by someone else. Who is the right person to talk to over there? Thank you so much
ReplyDeleteHello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your article seem to be running off the screen in Safari.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I thought I'd post to let you know.
The layout look great though! Hope you get the problem resolved soon.
Many thanks
