Tough Month for BJ's....How is it affecting you??

PHILADELPHIA - FEBRUARY 21: A BJ's Wholesale ...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. reported Thursday a 6.8% decline in same store sales for the month of May, hurt chiefly by lower gasoline prices and volume.

BJ's said that sales for May dipped by 4.7% to $783.4 million from $822 million a year ago.

It's been a tough go for retailers, but BJ's has been doing a decent job during this recession, some say that BJ's stock will dip under $30.00 a share...We're wondering how it's affecting workers, from what we've heard on the street is that the recession has cut hours, and put most employees under tremendous pressure...What's your thoughts?

Here's what some top news agencies had to say:

BJ's down 6.8%

Marketwatch: BJ's DOWN.

BJ's same store sales down, Boston Globe reports.

from Maple Shade when Voorhees opened

  4. Don't know about other stores, but Maple Shade's budget is cut and they are asking employees to take extra days off. Others schedules have been cut, with some part timers having no hours for the week.

I completely agree with the poster who said "Too many stores, too close."

Boggles the mind that in this recession, they are planning new stores??? Stop being greedy before you ruin a great business.

  5. New stores means new jobs. It's good for the employees if the company keeps growing.

  7. If you are a full timer, you must be offered at least 37.5 hours a week. They have to cut part-timers FIRST!!!!

Can someone please explain to me how Cindy, whose our Personnel manager, still has a job. I've known some useless people before in my club, but GODDAMN!!

  9. Good for them hopefully people are going to Costco which hopefully gets them to fire the horrible HR people that always stick up for the managers who break all the rules and fire people illegally

  10. They really should investigate a GM who hires anyone from his church who needs a job even if they don't qualify.

HR/Personnel Managers are all useless. Maybe your hr mgr is good in the sack or something. Our's sits at her desk all day stuffing her fat face. She's like sasquatch, you always hear a page from her, but you never, ever see her. I feel like leaving a box of Dunkin Donuts' Boston Creams on the sales floor just to get a glimpse of her.

They do not have to cut part timers first. They are aloud to do what ever they want. This is a non-union company that has no structure to protect its employees.

  13. just to clarify something I read on here again and again, there are 2 teirs of full time... the 37.50 hour and also a 30 hour full time still offered benefits... be sure to check what you are before you start throwing accusations.
and just before all the "omg they dont do that in other stores" start... they do it in other companys also, and most dont even offer benefits at 30, so research before the onslaught begins...

  15. the person who said something about the gm hiring church members, you must be talking about bj's georgia. Everybody and his mama that goes to his church gets a job here, even if they dont do nothing. No PDI, No drug test, nothing,. just start working. All his church members who shop here gets there way. all they have to say is i go to church with your gm so get him up here now!

  16. enquiring minds wanna know something. How can you work at bj's, quit, then come back and have it your way? Leave when you want to. Managers send you to go get lunch but dont clock out til you get back 45 minutes later then be in the break room for an hour but they firing people for being a minute late? Catty girls that work the front line sit on the food court tables on thier cell phones. Certain people have issues but management does nothing about it because the whole club know that that one person have something on the gm and another manager. People I know who shop here say they are surprised bj's is still open.

  17. That sounds like the club I work at in Georgia. Those black girls that work with me at the front line has so much attitude. They snatch peoples money then throw the change down on the belt like they are too good to hand it to them. Alot of my coworkers are supposed to be working but instead, hang out in HR and gossip. HR manager let her friends make thier own schedule. I swear my gm is banging one of them black girls. He act like he dont see nothing they do. Its good people here but those bad ones make it hard for them and make them wanna quit. Turn over rate is is through the roof.

  19. RE: This is a non-union company that has no structure to protect its employees.

That is true...BJs in Ga does whatever it wants. On top of all of their other bad business practices, they adjust your time so that by the end of the week, that extra time you worked all week doesn't calculate into overtime. Yet, adjusting that minute you were late is out of the question. Even if the time clock is set five minutes fast. Well...they finally changed that after a few people were fired for being late(supposedly). Ridiculous.

there comes a time in Life when you have to let go of all the pointless DRAMA &The People who Create it &Surround yourself with people who marke you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus solely on the good.after all life is too short to be anythings but happy.

hey we are a family, stop with the bulls...we all need to talk about it.no one want to talk.but you come on here for whats.we all work together so can we have a meeting about how we feel.this is for the mod.club 150 has such a low moral, what are you guy going to do about that.wait i know

  24. club 150 Everyone at my club knows about this website. There is a lot of negative comments about fellow team members. I feel that a couple people were just venting because they have issues that no one seems to be concerned about. I think this BJ's Workers Blog was a good place to do that and they felt comfortable doing so on here because they noticed that they could post anonymous. They feel that if they bring these issues up that thier job would be threatened and the reason I feel this way is because if they find out who posted anonymously they are going to be fired. People want to find out who posted what so bad but thats why I'm thanking you because you let the team members without a voice be heard without the fear of repremand. Instead of trying to find out who posted what, I think they should try to right the wrongs within instead of planning a vengeance on the postee. Once again thank you for having a place for the "no voices" be heard.

  28. I actual work at the best club ever. We are a team family. Some people don't feel the presure of the higher powers as managers do. Being just a team member is great as long as you work. I take pride in my work for my own personal satisfaction I give my club 150% everyday I clock in. only if every one had the same work ethnics I do. We would all be happy. Come on G clubs. Or just quit and give your job to someone who would appreciate it
